New England Surf State Boys Success

September 29, 2023

New England Surf State Boys program has maintained consistent growth and success throughout its early years. With 22 teams in total, our State Boys teams have compiled 6 USYS championships in the last three years along with 2 regional championships. Most recently our 2005 Navy team was crowned 2023 USYS Eastern Regional Champions, while our 2005 Sky and 2007 Navy teams made it to the semi-final matches.

State Boys Director, Jake Beverlin, stated “At New England Surf we value our players long term development and helping them get better every day. We know our players have aspirations to play at the next level, so we prioritize preparing them for a competitive, challenging, and fun environment that they will hopefully move to after they graduate from Surf.”

Jake Beverlin, our state boys director, doubles as head coach of UMass Boston Men’s soccer. He is in his 11th season as head coach and has led the team to their most successful stretch in program history. Tommaso Trevisan, NE Surf General Manager, is a very successful and influential coach within the boys’ program, and he leads country-wide identification programs, such as Surf Select and the International Development Academy. Ken Bovell, another state boys coach, is the head coach of MIT Men’s soccer. This year marks his 9th season as head coach for the Engineers.

Our staff is also ran by Estive Sosa – Bunker Hill Community College Head Coach, Erald Hysaj – Babson College Goalkeeper Coach, Kyle Bak – Endicott College Assistant Coach, Matt Whittley – Boston University Assistant Coach, and Daniel Campos – UMass Boston Assistant Coach. Not only is our staff filled with experienced college coaches, but also players who have also built their own successful resumes throughout their careers. Kareem Smith played division 1 at USF and continued his career to the professional level. Yuran Texeira and Pedro Dasilva are both former All-Americans from UMass Boston.

State boys teams practice at state-of-the-art, private-school facilities including The Fessenden School in Newton, Buckingham Browne and Nichols School (BBN) in Cambridge, and The Roxbury Latin School in West Roxbury.

Our goal at New England Surf is to set our players up for success for the next step in their career, whether that be to play collegiate or professional. In the last three years we have had 60 college commits within all three divisions of the NCAA including The University of Pennsylvania, The University of Vermont, and The University of Rhode Island. Click here to view the entire list of college placements from our boys program. We have also helped advance 6 players into the New England Revolution Academy.

Many of our players are holding their own at the collegiate level by making starting rosters and playing serious minutes. Isaac Heffess, University of New Hampshire, and Andrew Millar, University of Vermont, are both regular starters in top-25 programs. AJ Cucinotta, UMass Amherst, had his first start in a big game against VCU and Mathias Taylor, URI, recently scored a huge goal against Providence. Surf alumni, Joey Beshel (Colby College) and Andrew Coelho (Williams College), went head-to-head recently.

Our high school teams will return to Surf play November 11-12, which will also be open tryouts for our 2009-2005 age groups. To learn more about our program and inquire about tryouts, click here
