NES Alumni George Nassar Shines as Freshman Goalkeeper at Bates College

September 25, 2024

George Nassar, a former standout at New England Surf and current NES coach, has made an immediate impact in his freshman season at Bates College. Starting all seven games, Nassar has anchored the Bobcats to a 5-1-1 record, including an unbeaten 2-0-1 mark in conference play. His standout performances between the posts have set him apart early in his college career.

With 622 minutes logged on the field, Nassar has conceded just two goals all season, showcasing an incredible presence in goal. A defining moment came in a thrilling non-conference road win against the University of New England, where Nassar made a crucial penalty save with just 55 seconds remaining, preserving a 1-0 victory. The spectacular save was so remarkable it earned a spot on SportsCenter’s Top 10.

In addition to excelling on the field, Nassar continues to give back to the sport by coaching for New England Surf, helping the next generation of players develop their skills, just as he did through the program.

Nassar’s quick rise and ability to thrive under pressure reflect the elite training and preparation he received at New England Surf. His leadership and poise are evident, and as he continues to build on his remarkable start, he is quickly becoming a cornerstone for Bates College soccer.
