Surf 2011 MW vs Surf 2011 MB Recap

It was derby day on the 2011 girls side this past Sunday at MacGrath Park, with a much anticipated matchup between 2011 Metro West and 2011 Metro Boston. MW started off the game strongly, scoring a goal within the first minute. Shortly after, the MB girls found their footing and displayed some great soccer of their own. MW went on to score one goal per quarter, resulting in a final score of 4-0 for the MW girls.

The game was much more even then the result shows, with both sides creating some quality chances throughout the game. The difference maker happened to be in the offensive third, with MW capitalizing on their chances with some fantastic individual goals coming from Kenzie Cayer (2), Email Sousa, and Sophia Dudley. An honorable mention goes out to both ‘Gigi’ and ‘Cookie” for their fantastic performances in the Metro Boston goal. “I was really happy with the girls’ performance this weekend. It was a hard fought, close game and I’m glad we came out on top. We are looking forward to building on this performance next weekend” – Luke Rothero, Girls 2011 MW Head Coach.

After a fierce battle between two strong sides, it was difficult for Coach Luke to pick a Player of the Match. Due to her heroic defending and composure when playing out of the back, this weekend’s Player of the Match goes to Keira Byrne from 2011 MW. Congratulations to Keira and all the girls for quality performance this weekend. Girls 2011 MW kicks off next Sunday against NE Rush at Manter Field, while the 2011 MB girls play Western United at MacGrath Park.

Surf 08 State Navy vs 08 Seacoast United Recap

Our second featured game of the weekend brought us to the Fessenden School for a matchup between our 08 Navy Boys and Seacoast United. This was the third matchup between the two sides, with the previous two resulting in one win and one tie for our boys in blue. 08 Navy started off strong, immediately dominating possession and keeping Seacoast pinned to their own half of the field. That possession turned into frustration, however, with our boys unable to register many promising scoring opportunities in the opening thirty minutes.

After the first half hour, it seemed as though our boys began raising the tempo when in possession, and began causing more problems for the Seacoast backline. They had to wait until the second half for their breakthrough, however. Surf’s lead came roughly 10 minutes into the second half of a beautiful finish from Drew Ribeiro. The 08 Navy boys didn’t let the goal kill their hunger to score. They pushed on and maintained the majority of possession, but couldn’t find a second goal. To add to that, Seacoast came back with roughly 10 minutes left on the clock to ultimately end the matchup in a tie for the second time this season.  “We are obviously disappointed in the result due to the amount of possession and chances we had, but we can all be proud of the performance today and overall improvement of the squad over the past few weeks”- Nathan Stern, Boys 08 Navy Head Coach.

The 08 Navy boys were defensively solid throughout the game with AJ Clark leading the way in net in the first half, and Nick Holden between the posts in the second. Due to his goal and overall solid performance, Drew Ribeiro was named Player of the Match for Game Day 6 on the boy’s side. Congratulations to Drew on a job well done! The 08 Navy boys kick off next Sunday at The Fessenden School against Western United Pioneers.
