Surf 07 State Sky vs 07 Western United Pioneers Recap

This past Sunday saw an intense matchup between our 07 Girls State Sky and Western United Pioneers, with the game ultimately resulting in a 1-1 draw. The game started off slow for Surf, conceding an early penalty which the Pioneers were not able to capitalize. Surf were able to connect well with each either and find open space, but lacked the intensity and pace needed to create sufficient scoring opportunities. This caused Sky to occasionally have to play on the back foot, conceding chances of their own, which eventually led to a goal close before halftime. The Pioneers capitalized off of a controversial free kick to take the lead before halftime.

Surf came out flying in the second half and immediately upped the tempo to create plenty of good scoring opportunities. Their perseverance and determination eventually paid off. After over half an hour of committing numbers forward, the breakthrough finally came from a Delaney Jones free kick, which solidified a 1-1 result.  “I am very proud of how the girls responded in the second half. They showed the confidence and courage that we try to instill in our girls and it paid off with a solid result. There were definitely plenty of things that need improvement, but overall I am happy with how the girls performed today.” – Amanda Hamilton, Head Coach.

As a result of her performance and crucial goal late in the second half, Delaney Jones has been named NE Surf’s Player of the Match. Another huge shoutout goes to interim goalkeeper, Natalia Kluza for stepping up and helping the team during an injury. Natalia typically plays as a center back but was put in goal due to an injury to Surf’s starter the day before. NE Surf 07 Sky’s next league match will take place on October 25th at Fessenden vs 07 Surf Navy. Huge congrats to Delaney and the rest of the girls on a positive showing, and make sure to check in with us on social media to stay up-to-date on our club!
