State Tryouts:

Centralized evaluation for State-level teams (U11–U17)
Please note: These Tryouts are intended primarily for external players who are not currently part of the Surf program.
State Tryouts are the primary evaluation opportunity for players seeking placement on New England Surf’s State-level teams. These sessions provide a structured, professional environment where players are evaluated beyond a single moment—looking at technical ability, decision-making, coachability, effort, and long-term potential.
Evaluations are intentional and transparent, giving families clarity around how Surf assesses players and makes placement decisions. Players who attend may be considered for placement in the current or upcoming season, or encouraged to continue developing within the Surf environment.

Later-season entry with consistent evaluation standards
Tryouts at New England Surf provide another opportunity for players to be evaluated for Regional and State teams. The process follows the same principles as our ID Sessions. There will be clear evaluation criteria, multiple looks, and a focus on long-term development and overall fit.
Players are assessed on more than technical ability, including coachability, effort, and how they compete within a team environment. Organized and transparent by design, tryouts give players confidence and families clarity while prioritizing development, communication, and finding the right fit without unnecessary pressure.

2026–2027 Age Group Updates
Important Changes to Birth Year Cutoff
U.S. Soccer and most competitive leagues will be shifting to a new age group formation beginning in the Fall 2026 season.
The 2025–2026 season will remain under the current birth year rules, giving families and players a full year to prepare for the transition.
Beginning in Fall 2026, the new August 1 – July 31 age cutoff will apply.
