2011 State Boys Navy: A Team to Lookout for this Season

October 27, 2022

The Team

Our 2011 State Boys Navy have been nominated as the team of the week by our State Boys DOC, Jake Beverlin.  Having started the season as finalists in the New England Surf Labor Day Classic, they have had continued success in league play in the NECSL.

Most recently, they were victorious in this past Sunday’s matchup against Jaguars United FC 4-1.  Before that, they were again finalist’s in Seacoast’s Ocean Cup Columbus Day Tournament.  For being a new team at New England Surf, they have shown their promise and stature in competing against the top teams in the age group at such an early stage of their development as a team.

Their play style certainly resides with our philosophy here at New England Surf.  They look to play out from the back through their central midfielders and then look to obtain overloads in the wide area for crosses into the box.  On defense, they want to still be on the front foot and press the opposition high up the field with their athletic players in an attempt to counter quickly to goal.  So far, it is certainly working!

The Coach

Paul Erne: Our former Assistant Boys Director and now Metro Boston Regional Manager.  He recently completed his UEFA B License and has a stellar track record with the boys side.  Having taken his 2004 side all the way to glory in the State Cup Final.  These 2011 Boys are lucky to have him as their coach.

Upcoming Fall

Our 2011 State Boys Navy side’s goals for the fall are to challenge the top teams in the age group and so far they are doing a great job in doing that after 2 final’s appearances.  They are also currently residing in 4th place in the NECSL after a stellar 4-1 Win over Jaguars United FC this past weekend.
