New England Surf to Host Grace McElhinney from Tristar FC as Part of Ongoing Cultural Exchange

June 9, 2025

New England Surf is excited to continue its annual tradition of welcoming a player from Tristar FC, a respected youth soccer club based in Derry, Northern Ireland. Since its founding, Tristar has built a reputation for developing well-rounded players through a strong focus on technical growth, teamwork, and character—values that align closely with our own.

While this exchange has historically involved boys’ teams, Tristar’s recent expansion into girls’ football has opened the door to new opportunities. This summer marks a special milestone, as Grace McElhinney becomes the first female player to participate in the program.

Grace, born in 2009, is a central midfielder for Tristar and has made an immediate impact since joining the club. She brings a versatile skill set, strong leadership qualities, and a clear passion for the game. In addition to her club play, Grace represents her school in both soccer and Gaelic football, recently helping her team win the U16 Ulster Championship. She’s also active in music, fitness, and academics—studying GCSE PE and Biology with a focus on sports science, nutrition, and recovery.

Grace will be in Massachusetts from Tuesday, June 24 through Wednesday, July 16. As part of her stay, she will train and compete with our teams while also experiencing life with local families.

We’re thrilled to welcome Grace this summer and continue strengthening the connection between New England Surf and Tristar FC through shared experiences and lasting friendships.
“Our players and families will welcome her with open arms,” said Technical Director Peter Bradley. “We’re excited to have her be part of Surf for a few weeks.”
