NE Surf @ DPL Finals
Our 2010G Navy, 2008G Navy, and 2007G Navy competed in the DPL Finals, which were held in West Chester (Cincinnati), OH at Voice of America Athletic Complex. The best of the best from the U13-U19 DPL regular seasons competed for the championship over June 27 – July 2.
All three of our teams competed in the top-level Supergroup. Our first team, 2010 G Navy, absolutely dominated the competition with 15 goals for and 0 goals allowed through group play. The Girls’ first match was an astounding 7-0 win over Hoover-Vestavia Soccer 2010 G DPL. A cool second match resulted in a 1-0 win versus San Diego Force FC 2010. In the third game, the Girls found their scoring form once again and defeated Boulder County United 2010 G DPL by a margin of 7-0. Dominant group play set the Girls up for a rival derby matchup against Rhode Island Surf G 2010 Elite in the semi-finals. The Girls battled hard and came out with a 4-2 win, propelling them to the finals. A tight 1-0 win over Sunrise Sting 2010 DPL capped off a spectacular tournament for the Girls, giving them the Championship trophy.
The second Girls team to play in the DPL Supergroup was 2008 G Navy. In similar fashion, the Girls dominated group play, scoring 15 goals and allowing just 1. Their first game was a strong 8-1 win over Southern Soccer Academy ‘08 G FPL. The Girls carried their form to their second match and defeated Sunrise Soccer Club Sting ‘08 DPL 6-0. They rounded out group play with a 1-0 victory against SoCal Elite FC G ’08 DPL. Semi-final play brought on Monterey Surf G ’08 DPL, and our Girls emerged victorious by a score line of 6-0. Again, our Girls fought hard in the final and crowned themselves tournament Champions with a 1-0 win over Charlotte Soccer Academy SA ’08 G DPL.
Our final Girls team to compete in the DPL Supergroup was 2007 G Navy. Breezing through group play with 13 goals for and 1 goal against, the team kicked off with a 5-0 win versus Phoenix Premier FC ’07 G Black DPL. Another 5-0 win in their second game against ASPSC Pinecrest Premier ’07 G DPL showed promising signs for the side. The third game of group play resulted in a 3-1 win over Charlotte Development Academy ’07 G DPL. Flying through the semi- finals, the Girls defeated Lou Fusz Athletic LFA Blue Star Premier ’07 G 5-1. The final brought on opponent Sunrise Soccer Club Sting ’07 DPL. The Girls fought hard, but ultimately fell 1-0 in the final. 2007 G Navy Defender, Stella Boggis, was selected to play in the DPL All-Star game, and did a fantastic job representing her team and the club.
Overall, three out of three Girls teams played in the final matches of their age groups. We could not be prouder of the efforts put in by our teams. We wish all the best to those going on to further competitions!
Girls State Director and 2007G Navy Coach, Darren Gallagher, stated, “It was a fantastic week for the club at the DPL Nationals in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is impressive to have three teams qualify for this event on the success of league play. It is quite another thing to walk away with two National Champions and a National Finalist! Full credit goes to the players, coaches and families for an outstanding performance over the six days and for creating an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. What a way to end the year!
