More Than a Tryout: Finding the Right Starting Point at New England Surf

February 20, 2026

For many families, the question isn’t whether to try out.
It’s where to start.
Different sessions, different age groups, different messages — and it’s not always clear what each one means, or how it all fits together.

At New England Surf, the process is designed to be clear.

Because joining a club should not feel confusing.
It should feel like a step forward.

It’s Not About One Day

At Surf, players are not defined by a single session. We don’t believe one moment can tell the full story of a player.

Instead, the process is designed to give players time, space, and multiple opportunities to be seen — so that evaluation is based on who they are as a player, not just one performance.

For families, this means less pressure.
And more confidence in the process.

Two Ways to Get Started

At this stage of the season, there are two ways for players to enter the Surf environment — depending on their age and where they are in their journey.

Both are part of the same club.
Both are designed to help players find the right place to grow.

State ID Sessions (U11–U17)

March 23–25

State ID Sessions are the primary evaluation opportunity for players interested in Surf’s State-level teams.

These sessions provide a structured, professional environment where players are observed across multiple days.

Coaches are not just looking at technical ability —
they are looking at how players think, compete, respond, and learn.

By seeing players more than once, the process becomes more complete — and more fair.

Regional Open House (U8–U14)

April 6–9

For younger players, the experience is designed to feel different.

Regional Open House sessions are about introduction, learning, and confidence.

Players train in a supportive, local environment, alongside others at a similar stage — without the pressure of a traditional tryout setting.

Families also get the chance to understand how Surf works, and how players can progress over time.

Finding the Right Fit

Every player is at a different stage.

Some are ready for a more competitive environment.
Others are just beginning their journey.

The goal is not simply to select players.
It is to place them in the environment where they will develop best.

That’s why the process is structured — not rushed.

Because the right fit matters more than a quick decision.

A Club Built for the Long Term

Choosing a club is not just about the next season.

It’s about finding an environment where your child can grow —
with clear standards, consistent coaching, and a pathway that supports them over time.

At New England Surf, that journey is intentional.

Your Starting Point

State ID Sessions and Regional Open House sessions are now open for registration.

The question is not just where to try out.

It’s where to begin.
