Surf 2009 State Sky vs FC Blazers GU11 Recap

This past Sunday saw our 2009 State Sky girls take on FC Blazers at Union Point. With Sky entering this game undefeated, and thus leading the league, the pressure was on to deliver a strong performance against a solid opponent. Our girls got off to a flying start and took control of the game right away, dominating possession and putting pressure on the Blazers backline.  It only took the girls in blue six minutes to find the back of the net. The flood gates were open from there and Surf didn’t take their foot off the gas. Surf continued to combine well and create plenty of chances, capitalizing on four of them in the first half. A notable goal came from Charlotte Sze, who smashed a one-time finish from 20 yards out, just minutes before the halftime whistle came.

The second half proved to be somewhat problematic in front of goal for Surf. Although they remained the far better side, their composure and focus in front of net seemed to suffer in comparison to the efficiency that was displayed in the first half. Despite this, they still managed to find the back of the net one more time and ultimately win the game with a result of 5-1.

After such a strong team performance, Coach Amanda Hamilton struggled to choose just one Player of the Match. “I am so pleased at the level of play that my girls have been displaying this season. Not just the results, but the way we have gelled together as a team makes me very proud”, says Coach Amanda. Due to her versatility and consistent performances as a goalkeeper, center back, and a winger, it is fair to say that Eva Ferris has earned this week’s Player of the Match for Week 8. Congratulations to Eva and the rest of the 09 State Sky squad for maintaining their undefeated season! 2009 State Sky will kickoff next Sunday at Union Point against NE Surf 2009 State Navy to wrap up the Fall season.
