Copa Olders 1

Copa Surf Older’s Recap

March 8, 2023

On behalf of New England Surf, we would like to thank all clubs for their flexibility throughout a challenging weekend. We feel that we made the right decision to play two games and avoid cancelation – this is a key time for New England based teams to prepare for the Spring Season and competition was definitely beneficial for all teams in attendance.  Even with all the weather challenges we faced over the week, our Copa Surf Older’s Tournament was our best yet!  Now, we take a closer look at the big results on each of the Platinum Brackets!

Boy’s Side:

U15 Age Group:

Two brackets in this age group.  The standout performer: New England Surf 2008 State Navy!  Playing two games over the weekend versus JAB EDS South, winning 4-0 and CT Rush South, winning 1-0.  A dominant weekend from a team with lofty ambitions!  In Bracket B, Boston Bolts EDP National showed their strength as well.  Winning against Aztec Boston 3-0 and drawing against JAB EDS North Bianco in their final game.  What a final we would of have had!

U16 Age Group:

Only 1 bracket in this age group and it was a Surf masterclass!  New England Surf 2007 State Navy cruised to 2 wins, scoring 7 goals in the process which led them to top the group!  Finishing in second place with 2 wins as well, scoring 5 goals in the process was Rhode Island Surf 2007 Elite.  A dominant display for Surf Nation!

U17 Age Group:

A hard fought battle between JAB EDS North and New England Surf 2006 State Navy.  Both teams winning all of their games in style but it was JAB EDS North who came out on top.  They were able to score 9 goals and concede only 2 which equalled a +7 goal differential where New England Surf 2006 Navy scored 6 goals and conceded 0, only equating to a +6 goal differential.  A heartbreaker for our boys!

U19 Age Group:

Multiple brackets and multiple teams competing in the Platinum level!  JAB EDS South came out victorious in Bracket A.  In their first matchup, they narrowly beat New England Surf 2004 Grey 2-1 and then sealed the deal against Rhode Island Surf 2005 Elite with another narrow but convincing victory 1-0.  Well done JAB!  In Bracket B, it was another battle between Juventus Academy Boston and New England Surf.  This time between JAB IFA and NE Surf 2005 State Sky.  Both teams showcased their dominance scoring loads of goals over the weekend.  In the end it was JAB IFA who came out victorious after beating NE Surf 2-0!  In Bracket C, Seacoast United Elite absolutely dominated their way to top spot!  Scoring 13 goals and only conceding 1 over their two games!

Girl’s Side:

U15 Age Group:

Another master class from one of the best teams at New England Surf.  Our New England Surf 2008 State Navy cruised to the top the Platinum Bracket having won both of their games.  In the first one, they played Club de Soccer Longeuil (from Canada) but showed no mercy, winning 3-0.  In their 2nd game, they dominated NY Rush Westchester, amounting 9 goals in the process.  Honorable mention for this bracket was Aztec Impact NPL MK.  They were able to push New England Surf 2008 State Navy to the very end as they also won both games.  Scoring 11 goals in the process.  A very solid weekend from them!

U16 Age Group:

A ferocious battle for the top spot in this age group.  New England Surf 2007 State Navy and Aztec Impact battled for the top spot.  After drawing against each other, it was going to come down to goal difference for the top spot.  With Aztec Impact prevailing by 1 goal in the end!  A narrow margin but well deserved for Aztec Impact!

U17 Age Group:

Another bracket coming down to goal difference!  Western United Pioneers FC Elite and FC Stars Worcester Blue both finished with 1W and 1D.  However, Western United Pioneers FC Elite finished top of the bracket due to more goals scored over their two matches!  A crazy ending to a fantastic weekend for this bracket!

U19 Age Group:

An absolutely crazy bracket.  3 teams, all playing each other one time.  Each team finishing with 1W, 1L and 3 points!  Once again it goes down to goal difference where Mass City DPL comes out victorious.  Having finished with a goal differential of only +1!  You will never see anything like this bracket again!
