2011 Girls City: A team to look out for this season

September 15, 2022

The Team

Our 2011 Girls City team has a very unique opportunity this fall season.  With 20 players on the roster, they have entered into two different brackets within the NECSL and are broken up bi-weekly into teams to compete. This presents new challenges every two weeks as they will have to adapt on the fly to their teammates’ tendencies and playing styles.

Last week we saw both teams play very well in competitive NECSL games coached by Estive Santos and Cristian Suvak.  Our Sky team showed incredible fight and spirit by coming back from a 1-0 deficit in the second half to win the game 2-1, scoring within the last 2 minutes.  Our Navy team was not as fortunate and lost the first game of the season, but the players, coaches and parents are maintaining a positive mindset going into the Fall season.

Our coaches are planning to adopt an expansive style of soccer, based on the large number of offensive players in the roster.  With many players with the ability to run at players and create chances, the Girls City team wants to isolate players in forward positions and areas close to the opposition goal, to maximize scoring opportunities.

The Coaches

Estive Sosa; An esteemed coach with the results and history to back it up.  Estive has established himself as one of the best coaches at NE Surf, having earned the Assistant Boys Director of Coaching position after some tremendous seasons at both club and collegiate level.  He was able to sustain quality as Head Coach at Bunker Hill Community College and Assistant coach at UMass Boston all while taking multiple NE Surf teams to the highest level.

Cristian Suvak; An aspiring young coach that has been with Surf since its inception two years ago.  He is still finishing up his collegiate playing career at UMass Boston and hopes to coach at the collegiate level once he decides to hang up his boots. He has been coaching within the City program for the past 2 years, making him well equipped for the season ahead.

Upcoming Fall

The 2011 Girls City team has high expectations for this coming fall, having just been touted the “Team to lookout for” by City Director, Jake Beverlin.  They want to compete in the NECSL and fight for the league title in both brackets, all while having fun and developing at a fast pace under the guidance of their coaches.
